When to get student loan!?

Hey all,

I was accepted into the school of my choice (SNHU) and I got my financial aid letter today and was given all but 3 grand of what I need to go to school. Anyways I need money for a laptop and to cover the 3 grand for the rest of the COA.

Anyways, I am looking at a private loan. My question is, since I have been accepted to SNHU and my finacial aid package is enough when should I apply for the loan?

Should I go for it now? Do I have to wait?

Can I even go and apply for one tommorow?

You can always try for scholarships to fill the remaining amount owed.

Yes that is true, and I am looking into it. But I still need a private loan for the laptop...anyone know if I can apply for one now?

Is this for school in the Fall? Why don't you get a job over the summer for the rest?

Yes it is for school in the Fall, I will be away for the summer and will not be able to get a job.

anyone?

Can I anytime to get a private loan?

I would inquire at a bank. You could find out whether or not you can take out the loan now, and then "shop around" for a good rate.

Even if you do apply today you will not receive the money until school starts. Something in your post makes me think you want to get the money sooner.

Seriously, do not get a private loan for a lap top. This is irresponsible borrowing.
Private loans are rarely available to recent hs grads. You will probably need to have a cosigner - such as a parent. Unless, you have an estabilshed credit history and an excellent credit score.

If you need to get a private loan to cover tuition, room and board - and have parent who is willing and able to cosign, then have your parent consider a PLUS loan. The interest rate is probably lower.

Remember - Loans have to be repaid. Private loans that defer payment will have interest accumulating on them and you will have to repay that as well. They are expensive and not ideal.

Perhaps you need to rethink your prioities - consider staying home this summer and working. two jobs if you have to.
