So I'm your typical obsessive CCer.... looking at summer '09. I will be a rising junior at that time. I finally found a summer school I should be able to attend (I'm eligible and I can afford it). I will be taking AP Calculus BC this year, and I wanted to spend the summer at a college. I intend this college to be my safety.

I'd like to attend UNC-CH and take the following courses:

Summer session I

MAT 233 Calculus of Several variables
MAT 381 Discrete Math

Summer session II

MAT 382 Linear Algebra and Differential Equations
MAT 533 Elementary Number Theory

I was just wondering what people who have had these classes (particularly math majors) think. I have posted in the UNC thread, but they aren't nearly as active as this forum. How hard are these classes at your school?

Shouldn't be too bad. Just don't expect to find many kindred spirits who also really enjoy math, because in my experience most people taking spring/summer classes are just doing it to meet requirements outside their major, and possibly because they struggle so much with the subject they don't want to have to deal with it on top of a full load. You might be better off going to a summer program like RSI, Mathcamp, Ross @ OSU, PROMYS, etc and working with other people of the same age, interest, and ability rather than just taking college courses for the sake of taking college courses with people who might not be particularly interested in or capable at math.

Honestly, I'm tired of dealing with high school students. I really want to go for the experience of being a true college student more than the credits, although the credits would be nice if I decide to go to UNC. I think that MAT 233 is the only course a non-math major would probably be in.

I would need exactly 6 more courses to earn my BS in Mathematics from UNC-CH.

My parents are like "Why do you want to go to school during the summer... you need to relax." Relax=Paint several rooms for us, wait on us hand and foot, get yelled at a lot.
