I'm starting a club and I accidentally told a few of my college-obsessed friends and they want to be apart of it. I am the only person who really cares about the club and its cause. My friends are asking to be mentioned as "co-founders" on the club application but I'm really not enthusiastic about giving them this title, seeing as they will probably abuse it.
So my question is, what should I do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unless they are actually interested in the topic, and willing to do as much work as you plan to do, I would not list them as cofounders

^ Agreed. If this was your idea and they are only in it for the title, then don’t list them as cofounders. It’s fair that way. :)

Just say no… If they’re good friends they shouldn’t push it. If they do just be firm about it. If you put all the effort into it then they shouldn’t be cofounders. lol I went through the same thing when I started a program at a local nursing home. My friend “conviently” started volunteering there and wanted to be part of the start up. I was like… hell no.

Tell them they can be co-founders AFTER January 1st lol. That will show them. Plus that will prove whether their intentions are good or not.

i agree with neuro . tell them no. they’re just using it

wow…where’s the ambition?
what harm will it do him if they want to put co-founders on their applications, you’re THE founder.

How about you ask them what they can do for you, a little quid pro quo, you know what I mean?

I had the same problem and ended up choosing a very poor vice-president, who was my friend at the time. I left the high school and the club completely crumbled under her reign.

If you want a helper, make sure it will be someone who really will help you.

Wow, completely. I went through the same ickiness at the end of freshman year about club founding as well. It’s probably not a good thing now that I think about it lol, but then I kind of bs’d something about paperwork getting too confusing. And again, they weren’t really interested in the actual club matter itself, just the college application material. Sooo…I offered to let them be “co-founders in spirit” lol. So pathetic.
