Dear Applicant, Congratulations! After reviewing more than 1100 applications of students admitted to the College of Business, I am pleased to inform you that you have been designated as a member of the Class of 2011 James Scholar Honors Program for your freshman year in the College of Business at Illinois.

Your strong record of achievement places you in the top 15% of the students admitted to the College of Business. Being in this select group qualifies you for the College of Business James Scholar Honors Program. The competition for admission into the College of Business was stronger than ever this year. You have a right to be proud of being in a group of students who will enter one of the nation's premier business colleges with such an honor.

Named for one of the University's distinguished presidents, Edmund P. James, this program recognizes students of extraordinary ability and achievement.

As a James Scholar, you will have access to significant benefits including early registration privileges, extended use of library facilities, designation of James Scholar status on your transcript, and special programs only available to James Scholars.

As one of 80 incoming James Scholars, you will join Associate Dean Victor Mullins and Assistant Dean Collette Niland in the freshman James Scholars Dean's Honors Seminar that will meet monthly. Activities in the seminar include discussion of readings, films, and current business events; working with the Office of Business Career Services (including a winter break job shadow experience); and attendance at special events hosted by the College of Business. The theme for the seminar is "professionalism." One of the goals of the seminar is to provide the James Scholars a path to increase their own individual professionalism.

james scholar isn't that great, but it is good.
the main benefits are only that you can register a lot earlier and i guess you could put it on your resume but heck lots of people extend the truth on their resumes a little so basically anyone could put that on their resume. It's also kind of a pain to maintain the GPA depending on yourself and what classes you take. Also you need to take Honors classes which basically mean more work. However the experience I guess is worth it overall. Depends on much you are interested in working very hard and focusing on your studies.
