College of Human Ecology

Hey everyone!
I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the difficulty of admission to Cornell’s School of Human Ecology?

I read somewhere that it’s easier than acceptance to other schools, and had an acceptance rate of about 30% for its applicants.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Thank you!

@IvyClimber117 No one knows their acceptance rate.

Congratulations on your acceptance! My daughter applied RD to Human Ecology and then to ILR. Do you know if both colleges will review her application?

@lisaol Oh no, I haven’t been accepted… Yet (hopefully).

But I do think that they will review her application desperately because they operate as separate colleges.

@lisaol Applications that include a primary and alternate choice college or school will be considered sequentially; first by the primary choice and then by the alternate choice. If an applicant is admitted by their primary choice college or school, the application will not be eligible for review by the alternate choice. The decision to consider an alternate choice application is at the discretion of the admission committee in the alternate choice college/school. It is possible that both colleges/schools will review your primary and alternate choice essays.

Here is an interesting blog run by two students currently at HumEc.

I’d recommend checking it out. You can even ask them questions.

The last breakdown I’ve seen is Fall 2011. The aggregate admissions rate, across all Cornell’s colleges, is down 3-5% since then.(eg from 18% to 14%). But I haven’t seen a more recent breakdown by college.
