I've applied to this major as my second choice (McCombs as first choice). I selected Computer Science as the major and I was wondering if this college/major is competitive. I'm an auto admit and I'm worried that they might put me in the School of Undergraduate Studies.

i’m not a student of course, but if i recall correctly, people have said that the college of natural sciences is one of the less competitive schools but computer science is a bit of a tougher major.

i don’t think they’ll put you in US, since you’re an auto-admit + natural sciences (apparently!) isn’t hard to get into.

Hope you get one of your choices though!

bump!!!

You should be fine for Natural Sciences. I believe Computer Science requires you to be admitted to the program in a more competitive process. You’ll have to check that out. NS shouldn’t be a problem though.

@Fiyero, really? that makes me sad (more competitive process)

What exactly is the School of Undergraduate Studies? From what I’ve gathered, it is there for people who don’t know what to major in or haven’t been accepted to their preferred majors, then transferring into a major they’re interested in? If that’s what it is, I’m not sure what I want to do yet so I guess I’m not too worried over this. I thought it was more like the College of Liberal Arts.

Lol to “get into” the College of Natural Sciences(CNS) you basically go into the building and tell them your major…simple as that. The building is W.C. Hogg or something like that ( I realize I sound like a fabulous student)
As for UGS, yes, a lot of people do use it to transfer into the colleges that require applications (engineering, etc). I had no idea computer science was under CNS! Interesting

omgseriously, I don’t understand. are you implying it is that easy to get accepted?

bump!!!

Ezra,

I don’t think anyone here has an answer for you. To get your mind in a peaceful place, why don’t you call admissions and ask them what is going on?

It won’t put you into UGS, but as far as the CS department is concerned, you’ll have to work that out with the College of Natural Sciences. Call them (not admissions-they’ll be out of it by then,) but only once you’re sure you haven’t made into McCombs.

Hook’em

Computer Science is pretty to get into. One my friends was a non top 10% (think top 21% & 2030 SAT) and got in. And yes, it is easy to change your major to a CNS major. I don’t think they even look at your GPA, just go to WCH after a semester and request a change of major.
