I plan on majoring in Physics and doing the 3-2 Columbia engineering program. I visited and loved both schools. COTHC would be slightly more expensive but money isn’t the biggest factor since I got pretty good deals at both schools. I’ve heard that COTHC has better STEM programs but the honors program at Fordham looks really special. I really just can’t make up my mind. Anything helps!
D '20 is a STEM student at HC and is happy with her choice. Has taken calc BC, multivariable calc, physics, and biology, along with Montserrat Seminar,( which sounds similar to the Fordham honors program) and other humanities courses. D says all classes have been excellent and math and sciences are very strong at HC. Courses are demanding and professors are very good and very accessible with flexible office hours. Study groups are always available for additional study and review. Students at HC are very smart and collaborative- not full of pretense or cut throat. They just had a math scavenger hunt/competition at the science building which is apparently a fun tradition there. Since you have visited, you have seen the new $64 M Integrated Science Complex, which is truly impressive and has state of the art laboratories and nice class rooms and a great science library plus a cafe for quick lunches between classes. The 3-2 program is intense and accelerated, but you will be well prepared at HC for the next stages in your education. Good luck.
My D is also at HC and couldn’t be happier. She loves the community with smart, focused, friendly kids and accessible professors who really get to know their students. The school does a lot to build community right from the start. She also has been pleasantly surprised by what the city of Worcester has to offer. The Montserrat seminar is a highlight. It really is a special place. That being said, Fordham is a terrific place as well. The Jesuits do education well!
I’m a current student (Class of 2020) here at the College and I absolutely love it! I’m not a STEM major, but I know many and I know several 3-2 Columbia students! As @HCPP20 and @wisteria100 have stated, the science programs here at the College are incredibly rigorous and, my unbiased opinion is that HC is a ton more elite than HC. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions!!
