College of the holy cross student life

Currently a high school senior looking at holy cross. What is the general social scene there? I am not a drinker or big partier, will there be things to do? How easy is it to make new friends

My relative goes to Holy Cross and has had a great experience. She’s not a big partier either, and has taken advantage of terrific internships, college jobs, sports, and more. It’s been a great school for the top notch, serious student that she is.

My D attends. Holy Cross does an excellent job of fostering community beginning with their orientation programs and continuing with freshman dorm life and the freshman seminar program. Freshman dorms have big social spaces and RA’s and the student dorm council will often have events there especially in the beginning of the year so everyone gets to know one another. The RA’s do a good job of fostering unity in the halls. The freshman seminars have out of class events sometimes merging a couple of seminar groups together which also promotes freshmen getting to know one another. My D does go to parties and she does go out in Worcester to eat a meal with friends. She also attends sports events and gatherings hosted by her clubs. Has also been to Boston a couple times. The campus center also puts on social events. There are weekly movies, lectures, game nights, dances etc, put on by the school and the clubs put on their own events. DCU center is nearby for concerts and such. Overall the school has a friendly vibe and my D has been very happy academically and socially.

It’s a very friendly school with a kid-from-next-door vibe. At least it was when I went there. Everyone gets along. There is drinking (or was), but it’s not crazy/out of control, and there are certainly plenty of other social options.

There are over 100 clubs and organizations on campus. What do you like to do and what can you contribute to the Holy Cross community? It’s really up to you how you want to spend your free time. While some “work hard, play hard” most students are more balanced. Lots of school spirit and pride.

There is a lot of drinking but there are people who don’t. It takes some work depending on who ends up in your dorm or roommate. My daughter had to work at it a bit and join more things. I felt bad when she would want to use their free rides to Providence or Boston or other trips and her freshman friends would cancel to drink at parties on campus. For some students, that is “fun” but as I told her, there are other students like you, but you wont find them just staying in your room. HC offers a lot, but you have to explore.
