"College of William and Mary?" No. Williams College.

I'm very happy to be accepted to Williams...although I will admit to being quite worried about the financial aid (didn't turn in noncustodial form yet...) but that's another story to mourn about later.

Anyways, I understand as a Southern Californian, there would not be a lot of people who will know what or were Williams College is. Overall, I don't mind because its importance only matters to me. Yet, I can't deny there's still a small sense of hurt when people underestimate how great Williams can be and that it's equivalent or greater than many other universities/colleges. Have you been in this situation before? How do you approach this?

don’t let others’ perception of Williams convince you otherwise of its prestige and standing. All that matters is the quality of the education you will be receiving. Williams is terrific in that regard. :D

don’t worry about it

the people that count, employers and graduate schools very well know how great Williams College is…

If there are other prestigious LACs nearby, you can say it’s like x (Pomona?) but in the northwest corner of Massachusetts. Then they’ll ask you why are you going so far away, and then you can discuss why choose Williams.

The financial aid at Williams is typically very generous.
