College preperation (pre med)

I'm a senior looking into pre med schools right now. I'm leaning towards going to public schools because they are financially better for me. I think i might go to either OU or OSU (OH). OU has an 85% med school acceptance rate, so I think i might go there. Plus my sister goes there so. I'm not sure what to major in, i'm thinking biology but I don't know what you can do with a BS in biology if med school doesn't work out. What are other majors you can select and still do proficient in med school requirements? I don't want a huge workload plus med school required classes (thats why i was considering the biology major because it fits in with the required classes). Anyways, i'd like to hear what you guys have to say. St. Mary's in texas is another option. My uncle and my cousin who are both doctors graduated there for their undergraduate degree. My aunt is also a professor there.

Thanks

1.) "Acceptance rates" are notoriously easy to manipulate. They are generally overly optimistic. Try and acquire more raw data about it, if you can.

1.5.) For future reference, by the way, "Top choice residency matching" is the same sort of statistic in choosing a medical school. Do not bother paying attention to it.

2.) With that say, I'm sure OU is a fine place as long as you'll be reasonably happy there.

3.) Biology majors have many options! They can stay in the health professions (NP, PA, DDS, PharmD); they can go to graduate school (PhD, MS); they can teach; eventually they can work in industry or a university as a PhD or an MS. They can go to law school or business school. In fact, science majors are very in demand as lawyers in the field of Intellectual Property.

thanks for the great info.
