I was wondering what counted as an Academic teacher. I’ve seen various different definitions (Any class you received a grade in, or Math, Science, English, History only, etc.) I would like clarification on what that meant.
Also, Some schools do no specify whether or not the want recs from academic teachers. If they do not specify, is it safe to assume that a non-academic rec would count?

College is an academic environment that is seeking those applicants who are most likely to succeed in and profit from their academic programs. Consequently, I think your best choices are teachers in areas academic areas such as English and history rather than opting for a teacher in PE or Home EC. Please understand that I am not being critical of teachers outside of traditional academic areas. Overall, though, I think your best choice is a teacher who knows you well, teaches in the area in which you plan to major, taught you and from whom you earned a good grade.
