So im a rising senior and i guess im applying to the college classes of 2017 but i already asked some teachers/community organization people for recommendations at the end of 11th grade. I want to major in bio and maybe minor in music. So i asked my ap bio teacher who really liked me, i asked my english teacher who taught me in 10th and 11th grade and i got an A in both her classes, and i asked my orchestra teacher who's had me since the 7th grade and i think could really talk about me as a person and my musical potential. Is that too many? because i know guidance counselors automatically write one too. And i guess it would be really pushing it to ask for another one from the head of an organization i took part in that helped underprivileged kids learn art and music?
Thoughts? i would really appreciate your input! Also im applying early decision to Upenn...

Do an arts supplement for music. Then a recommendation from a music teacher is often required or recommended.

That isn’t too many. Most colleges require 2 from academic subjects, then if you’re submitting a music supplement one from your music teacher as well. Then if you’d like to get one from your organization feel free to do that too.

I asked 4 teachers for recommendations; my guidance counselor said he’d read them then include the best two in my applications. Then I’m getting one from my mentor at my research internship, and if I include a dance supplement one from my dance teacher too.

It’s better to have enough on hand than not enough to turn in! But I wouldnt recommend turning in 4 teacher recommendations in academic subjects to colleges; you can get them just don’t submit all of them.

Sorry for rambling, but good luck!

ok thanks so much everyone!

spellinHi Arabkid,

If you are submitting more than the required number of recommendations I suggest you submit the one from your gc last. There are some computer programs that push the application forward once the required number of recommendations have been submitted. Therefore, if you don’t have the extra ones already in the file, your application may be read without them in it. The computer does not recognize a number greater than the number required. Is this clear? So either get them to go all at once or get the extra ones in early.
