Honestly I’m a bit undecided on what I would like to do for college and my guidance counselor is out this week . I either going to go into Psychology or Japanese Studies, however I am still unsure as to what I am going to do. If I DO go into psychology, I am most likely to go into grad school, so I should probably choose a lower tuition school or I am either going to transfer during the school year. I am most likely to choose SUNY or CUNY My brother goes to Stonybrook. I would like to go to Stony for practical reasons however I am not sure how waitlisting works. I would like to dorm so University of Buffalo might be my second choice. Though I am unsure how their psychology major works. How does waitlisting work though? Do i have to accept another school while im being waitlisted and pay the deposit fee?
First…Yes if you are waitlisted at a top choice school you must send in a deposit to the school you plan to attend out of your current acceptances. If you do get in off the waitlist and want to go to that school you would then accept the waitlist offer and deposit there. Then you should let the first school know that you will not be attending. You should expect to lose your deposit at the first school. IMO it is fine to go on a waitlist for a preferred school, but know that it is a long-shot and proceed as if you will be going to a school you have been accepted to already.
Second…you have plenty of time to talk to your guidance counselor next week.
Third…If you are considering grad school then a SUNY school might be an excellent option. My D has friends who are at SUNY Buffalo and are happy there. You can look online to see if the school has both areas you are considering majoring in.
