Hi, I am an international student currently living in the United States.
Since all of my college decisions came out, I am kinda struggling with choosing a college.
-Umd (econ), UIUC(business unassigned), Purdue(finance), UCI(econ), UW(econ)
I also got into the University of Toronto in Canada, mathematical program.
Congratulations! Those are great choices. Is UW the University of Washington or Wisconsin? (Both are very good.)
Honestly, they are all good choices. I think it depends on precisely your interests (financial career v. more general economics focus v. math, which is also general and great for many areas) and perhaps the type of place you want to live and learn for four years.
Maryland is “inside the Beltway,” that is the Washington Beltway, so close to DC and connected to downtown Washington by subway (the Metro). Econ is very strong at the school. There will lots of opportunities in DC.
UIUC and Purdue are very good midwestern universities. They are in college towns.
If UW is Washington, it’s very near downtown Seattle, a terrific city with lots to do. The campus is beautiful. I was there two years ago when the cherry trees were blooming. The weather is gray and rainy there, so everything is very green. It has more of a marine environment and is not too cold. So a traditional US campus near a fun city.
If UW is Wisconsin, it’s in a great college town (and the capital of the state). The campus is pretty integrated with the town and is right on a beautiful lake. It is a large, sprawling campus. Would you get out of bed on a cold, icy morning to go to an early class? It can be tough.
Toronto is a large urban school, but I know less about it. Would you want to study math? If so, it seems like a great choice. If not, then maybe one of the other schools would be better.
