College Students: How much money are you getting from scholarships?

I am interested to see how much money people are getting from scholarships. Please post how much money you are getting, what type of scholarship it is(ex. minority scholarship), and how you got the scholarship(ex. essay contest).

Thanks.

I got about 5000. None of them were specifically minority scholarships. What about you?

I didn't apply for any because all I could find were essay contests that I didn't think I had a reasonable chance at winning. Out of curiousity, what types of scholarships were yours?

regular scholarships that require transcripts, teacher recs, etc. I won some essay contests--about 2700 dollars worth.

I know tons of essay contests that have very few applicants. I can give them to you.

Chafee Grant (a type of grant that is only for people in a certain status...income is not considered....): $5,000 per year until I'm 22.

I didnt apply for any scholarships, but I got a $500 scholarship from some Texas Education thingy for graduating early

My sister has one that's about $6000; minority; I have no clue if the affiliation is through the school or not and I also don't know how she won it

IT seems like lots of colleges say that they consider all applicants for their merit scholarships...so it seems as if you don't have to fill out extra forms or whatever...but what if you want to try and prove to admissions ppl that you're the one they should pick for the scholarship?

I receive a $1600 per semester scholarship through my school (merit based - it's granted to any student in their Honors program), and 75% tuition and fee coverage through a program in my state (again, merit based) since I go to a state school. I get about $1300 back a semester.

I sent you a PM, vtoodler.

For those receiving merit-based scholarships, can you please post your stats?

I'll be getting %5,000 from the state of South Carolina if I go to college in-state cause of my GPA/SAT.

bump...............

Sozo, My D is also hoping for one of those scholarships given by the school that every applicant is considered for. I think those are based pretty much just on your numerical stats. My D's strategy for this is to apply to the 'safeties' on her list (for which her stats are quite a bit above the average), and to do so early (like this week). The aps are very easy - no essays or recs - so there's no excuse not to press the 'submit' button ASAP. Luckily she's very comfortable with these schools, as they are very good in her major and she is not tier-conscious.

Someone posted on another thread that some colleges require you to file a FAFSA before being considered for ANY merit aid. I hope that is not the case, as we don't plan to file FAFSA.
