I am interested to see how much money people are getting from scholarships. Please post how much money you are getting, what type of scholarship it is(ex. minority scholarship), and how you got the scholarship(ex. essay contest).

I didn't apply for any because all I could find were essay contests that I didn't think I had a reasonable chance at winning. Out of curiousity, what types of scholarships were yours?

My sister has one that's about $6000; minority; I have no clue if the affiliation is through the school or not and I also don't know how she won it

IT seems like lots of colleges say that they consider all applicants for their merit scholarships...so it seems as if you don't have to fill out extra forms or whatever...but what if you want to try and prove to admissions ppl that you're the one they should pick for the scholarship?

I receive a $1600 per semester scholarship through my school (merit based - it's granted to any student in their Honors program), and 75% tuition and fee coverage through a program in my state (again, merit based) since I go to a state school. I get about $1300 back a semester.

Sozo, My D is also hoping for one of those scholarships given by the school that every applicant is considered for. I think those are based pretty much just on your numerical stats. My D's strategy for this is to apply to the 'safeties' on her list (for which her stats are quite a bit above the average), and to do so early (like this week). The aps are very easy - no essays or recs - so there's no excuse not to press the 'submit' button ASAP. Luckily she's very comfortable with these schools, as they are very good in her major and she is not tier-conscious.

Someone posted on another thread that some colleges require you to file a FAFSA before being considered for ANY merit aid. I hope that is not the case, as we don't plan to file FAFSA.
