Volunteer at Pediatric hospital with approximately 200+ (300 soon) hours where I interact directly with patients and their families
In this same hospital, I’ve been accepted to assist in a pathology lab/
One other department I’m volunteering at is the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). I’ll be taking care of newborns and providing interactions to promote healthy development.
Volunteer for Red Cross: Recruiter, assisting in local disasters. I might all be sent out of state.
Working as a Certified Medical Assistant at a clinic. I will probably obtain 2,000 hours.
SAT Score: I am expecting 1300-1400 (hopefully higher)
I am going to attempt to score on the molecular biology, ecology, and chemistry SAT subject tests.
High School UW GPA: 3.625
High School W GPA: 3.875

I believe I have a good reason for studying what I want to study that’ll be discussed in my application essay. It involves a family dilemma.
I don’t have any college preparatory programs completed nor do I have all the required credits for many colleges.
I’d like to attend a university that is active in research and that is realistic for me to get into.
The new SAT scale is only 1400 total. But without real test scores, no one can give you much useful advice. What is your home state? What is your financial situation? How old are you? When will you take the SAT?
@intparent
Let’s assume my SAT score will be medicore. My home state is Florida and my household makes < $30,000 anually. I’m 17 and will take the SAT June 4th.
Mediocre isn’t super helpful. You need exact scores. I would assume you should look at in state publics. Sounds like your scores won’t be high enough for schools that meet need elsewhere. I am a little concerned – are you eligible for Bright Futures in Florida? I don’t know the rules (not from Florida), but you need to look at that. I feel like maybe you have to apply before HS graduation – but looks like you have a GED.
@intparent I’d say a 1150 out of 1400. Don’t most public universities have required credits? I didn’t complete 4 years of english or math, etc.
Is it really? My sister got a 1480. I thought it was out of 1600.
The new SAT is out of 1600.
Ah, sorry . Yes. 1600. Your problem will be finances, I expect.
Oos merit might be hard with the GED. So look for instate schools that offer your intended major. Community College to 4 year might not be a bad idea either.
FSU
NCF
FIU
FAU
@nw2this Don’t those schools have required credits? What are my options that are out-of-state?
The schools above consider home schooled and GED students differently meaning they won’t expect you to have completed the normal college prep classes. See the bottom of this page.

Apply and see what happens or call and ask. Community colleges will be your safeties.
Study hard for the ACT/SAT and you might have some oos options. But call and see if and how they consider GEDs with regards to scholarships.

@nw2this Nice! Thank you so much.
