College suggestions please

I need some suggestions on schools to apply to. I am planning to transfer to an out of state college. I will have 60 units by the end of this semester. My GPA is 3.88. My major is Computer Science. I want to transfer preferably in California, but not limiting myself to that. It would be nice to be accepted to a school that would give me a lot of merit aid as a transfer (I know this is rare, s o please don't mention it.), or a college that just gives a lot of aid in general. Thanks!

(p.s. USC is not an option for me.)

What is your state of residence? What is considered OOS? Why OOS?

^Hawaii.

OOS as in, a college out of my state, preferably in California.

Simply because I want to.

I think you should look into UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, and UC Santa Cruz. In California, there’s also the Claremont colleges which is a group of smaller schools in Claremont,CA (not too far from Los Angeles). There’s also Chapman in Orange County. Other nearby states have CU Boulder, U of A, Oregon, U of Washington Seattle. In Texas, you could look into SMU and UT-Austin and maybe TCU. U of Michigan, Indiana University, and U of Wisconsin are some good options in the midwest. Tulane and Emory (reach!) in the South. U of Miami in Florida is also a fun school. Syracuse University and NYU are some great picks in NY. Boston University in Massachusetts. There’s also UMass Amherst. U of Maryland-College Park, American University and George Washington University in DC.

If you want any other suggestions I’d be happy to help. You didn’t really give any parameters so I just listed some schools that I might like. Make sure you consider size, location (weather, distance from home, etc), and cost when making your list. Also, make sure you have 1-2 safety schools, a 3-5 matches, and 1-2 low reaches and 1-2 crazy reaches (reaches aren’t crucial but why not?! I don’t think more than 4 is worthwhile though). If you can’t narrow your list down that much then I would say apply to some more matches or low reaches.

Best of luck

Be aware you will be paying OOS rates at all UCs.

^ Duh…

Essentially, USC is out and UC’s do not give any financial aid.
Hawai is part of WUE so here’s the list of California schools you could attend with aid:
http://wue.wiche.edu/search_results.jsp?searchType=all</a>
Look into Occidental and Pitzer. Not sure whether CalTech or HarveyMudd admit transfers.

What kind of price limit are you looking at?

Some approximate list prices (don’t expect good financial aid at out-of-state public universities):

$52,000 to $56,000 Berkeley
$36,000 to $37,000 San Jose State (no WUE discount) (past admission results [here](http://info.sjsu.edu/static/admission/impaction.html))
$36,000 Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo (no WUE discount)
$34,000 Stony Brook
$31,000 Minnesota - Twin Cities
$25,000 to $26,000 CSU East Bay (with WUE discount)
$25,000 South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (OOS price lower than WUE price)
$22,000 to $25,000 Hawaii - Manoa (in-state, living on your own)
$22,000 New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (with WUE discount)
$16,000 Hawaii - Manoa (in-state, living with parent)

A super-reach, but Stanford admits a small number of transfer students (including from community colleges) and gives good financial aid.
