if you're looking at some schools out of state, try for the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. It may be a little reach for you, but hey, no harm in trying.. or UCSD, if it isnt one of the UC's you're looking at.

I don't suggest U-M for the sole reason that you'd be paying OOS. While it is a great school, if you were trying to save money by going to a CC, all of that would be wasted by going to an OOS college that doesn't give too much money.

You have a better shot at USC than you do the UC's because they don't like to accept out of state students. I would also reccomend looking into the University of Miami, you have a competitive gpa for it and it is ranked in the top 50.

Other considerations: what is the financial situation? Will you qualify for need-based aid? Where you are in California, choosing a UC or CSU might be your financially wisest option and you simply cannot beat the quality of the schools.

If you want to get away from living at home, well... California is a big state. Are the two UC's you are considering in SoCal? Is that where you are?

I certainly think it is a wise decision to look further afield for your final 2 years of college and expand your horizons. But we need to know about your interests, aid needs, type of location you would want, etc. before we could recommend possibilities.
