I know that many colleges use the commonapp essay as one of their own, but I know that most of them also assign their own essay topics for the applicants. When do these supplements come out and how do I get them?

On the commonapp. While filing out the common app there should arer tabs on the left side. Once you have added all your schools you can click supplements. Click begin or something like that and it should show youths supplement page for that school.

thanks for the quick reply. Do you know the earliest time I could access the supplement page?

Start the common app
Add all your schools
Click on the supplements
Choose which one to look at

There is no timeline. They are to be turned in with the application I think. The applications have deadlines.

so it’s possible for me to start the commonapp process right now?

do college supplements change every year or are they generally the same?

Each schools supplement is different. Sometimes it’s just additional questions. Sometimes it’s additional questions and an extra essay or two or three or 7.

You can start the common app now. That is if you are applying for fall 2011. If you start it now for spring 2012 or fall 2012 I think it will get deleted between now and then. Usually there is some downtime between application periods where the commonapp is inaccessible.

I’m not sure if the supplement essays change but I’m pretty sure the commonapp essays have been the same for the past couple years. I’m not positive but if you wanted to you could start on your essays now and be fairly certain that the prompts will be the same.

I applied to my schools for this upcoming fall. I think the commonapp opened up in novermber or so.
