What is everyone's opinion on wearing other colleges' letters at your own school, i.e. wearing a Dartmouth, Brown or Yale t-shirt, for example, at Cornell. Is this insulting? Does anyone care?

Just curious...

I'm not at Cornell yet but at my campus I don't really like it. I myself would never wear one...but I guess some people think its fine. I'd play it safe unless you are wearing it during basketball season and are a fan of that school you are wearing or something... (or if the school isn't at all a rival of the one ur wearing). To each their own I guess lol.

I've always wanted to wear shirts to the schools I've applied to, but I've made the commitment to myself to not wear any clothing of a school I haven't heard back from yet...

Basically I wear UF stuff all the time....but I'm overnighting a Cornell t-shirt if I get in! :)

Ya I ordered a Cornell sweatershirt and bumperstickers when I got the answer lol :) We had a thread about this a while back, it's entertaining to c wat people do when they find out. Maybe we'll have another thread when all decision are back, it's fun to hear people's great reactions at being accepted.

lol i live close enough so that i told my mom if i ever get in, we are stopping everything and driving up to ithaca and getting one in person

other than that i will never buy a cornell anything unless i get in :-)

What about anyone at Cornell now? What if I wore a Brown or Yale or UVA shirt...would that be insulting? Personally, I'm leaning toward yes, but I was just wondering what other people thought. Like Cornell is way better than any school so, yea...um...why would I wear any other logo.

UNLESS for some reason I was paying tribute to a friend who went to X school or I supported a team that was NOT in the Ivy League, like Florida or Maryland or something.

Thoughts...?

If you’re wearing it to support a team or a friend, I think it should be ok! But to wear it for no particular reason kindda comes across as if you’re being disdainful or not showing pride in your school…some may see it that way I guess, but others might not really care! I personally wouldn’t do that but I also wouldn’t care if other people did!

Ya I think that it is important to show school pride, so unless there's a reason to wear another...just buy one of ur school. lol

first of all, Cornell mechandise is SUPER popular here. everyone has at least one piece of cornell clothing. whether its a cornell hoodie, a cornell t-shirt, a cornell hocket hat, cornell sweatpants (really popular with girls), everyone has one. you'll definitely buy one the second you arrive on campus. some freshman also buy the "ithaca is gorges" t-shirt or some variation of it but after freshman year no one wears them.

also, people wear clothing from other schools all the time. I see Yale, Dartmouth, Penn, NYU, Duke, Stanford, etc. shirts/hoodies on people ALL the time. It's not a big deal at all. No one wears any Harvard clothing however.

some people view it as weird and some might not like it. but it shouldn't be a big deal

yes i am obviously aware of this...i was just asking peoples' opinions on other schools' merchandise here. i know people do it, i just wanted to know what people thought of it.

honestly no one will care. you can wear whatever you want.

Well I mean like no one will say anything but...it's just kinda nice to have school spirit. Know wat I mean?

Ya, I guess to me it kinda upholds your schools reputation, not in a major way, but still…so it all goes back to the issue with school pride, and the importance of having that pride!

yes i agree, i always wear Cornell stuff...i was asking about other logos like Princeton or UMass or something in addition to Cornell stuff. it doesn't matter, this thread is not working haha

I always stare at people who wear different college clothing just to make them feel uncomfortable. ;)

UMass probably wouldn't matter at all, but since we play schools like Princeton in sports u might be stoned if people are angry w/ a game against them lol :)

"I always stare at people who wear different college clothing just to make them feel uncomfortable. "

hahahaha point well taken tun

As long as you don't wear a Harvard shirt at the Cornell-Harvard hockey game, then no one really cares.

Seriously, it's not a big deal. There's definitely a sense of school pride, but chances are, no one's going to make a comment if you wear something from another school. I remember being a little concerned about wearing stuff from other schools before I got to campus, but I shouldn't have been worried. Don't stress.
