Do that in high school and everyone thinks you're a loser. In college you see it all the time.

Yeah, that’s true, actually. In high school I never would have eaten lunch by myself. Now I’ll take myself out to lunch, to movies, shopping, whatever. I think that also comes from growing up a little bit and becoming more self-assured.

Probably because in college everyone’s schedule is different, so you eat when you can wherever you want to, and your friends may or not be in class. In HS, everyone has the same lunch time (or several lunchtimes, but you know what I mean) and you’re often herded into a cafeteria, so there isn’t the “my friend has class at this time” excuse. If you’re by yourself, everyone will notice and think you’re a loser with no friends.

I’m looking forward to college (UF) so, so much, 36 days (counting weekends) till graduation!

Maybe it’s because you stop caring what others think. And you get used to being alone.

Yeah that is a issue not to really make a big deal about, it’s just eating. Though ofcourse most of the time eating with associates or friends may be more nice.

Okay .

I always eat by myself. I don’t think people care. I don’t.

sometimes i eat with friends, sometimes i eat by myself. i never really cared…i usually read the paper then anyway to catch up on the outside world so it’s not a big deal

I think it looks perfectly fine if you’re studying, or at least pretending to study

i make it a point to eat alone at least one meal a day.
it helps clear my mind. and even if i do eat with other ppl, I limit it to a group of 3 at most.

the kids who eat with like 8 other loud obnoxious people are so high school.
they need to grow up.

Yes, because having a lot of friends to eat a meal with is something you definitely need to grow out of!

Yeah. No one really cares who you are and thus don’t really care if you eat alone…

well grad school too,
and the working world

Yeah, I wouldn’t say the only place, maybe the only learning institutions.

akhman, I don’t think it’s the people who eat in large groups he finds annoying. It’s the ones who shriek all the time and are extremely loud and obnoxious, acting like they are all that and entitled to be the center of attention for the entire lunchroom, completely oblivious/inconsiderate to those who may be trying to study or have a conversation. BMWdude, correct me if I’m wrong.

They’re only the center of attention if people elevate them to that status.

Lunchrooms should be understood to be a place where people are going to socialize, not study.

not at my school
many ppl, (except seniors, b/c of major senioritis) are frantically fininishing thier homework lol

that was me in middle school too,
i think they got sick of me after a while
but they let me sit at their table

akhman24: I always though lunchrooms were just places to eat… There’s too much focus on having to sit with all these people otherwise you don’t look cool, it’s just stupid.

I don’t think I’ve eaten in the cafeteria since freshman year (maybe winter of sophomore year). I don’t think I know any seniors who actually eat in the cafeteria.
