This isn't the typical whine about college life. I've made friends and I have fun. Overall, I like my school. I just feel like high school might have been better.

I'm a lazy person. In HS, we had a ton of classtime relative to the amount of material in the class. I could skate by on little effort and hang out with people in class. I actually liked schoolwork when it was easy. It's satisfying to excel at pointless busywork. Now, I have to try in most of my courses. Classtime is packed with material, so I never have a chance to just relax and talk.

Also, I desperately miss having 'me' time. Living in a dorm on a college campus in the middle of a city = never alone. At home, I loved being able to go out and shoot hoops in my driveway without having anyone around to watch. Or just listening to some music in my room.

Lastly, at home I was assured that at least one of the three daily meals would be decent. The food here leaves much to be desired, I think I'm getting sick because of poor nutrition.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

It's been a long time since I've posted on CC. This is a good place to procrastinate. Thanks for letting me vent :)

EDIT: Just thought of something else - I miss gym class. And band.

I definitely sympathize with the “me time” dilemma. It’s suffering being in someone’s presence no matter where you go. This is the biggest thing that bothers me about college. I’m really hoping to get a single on the quiet part of campus just because I feel like I can never 100% relax.

Oddly enough, my nutrition is definitely improving. I cooked for myself at home most of the time (as much as what I did counts as cooking), so I ate terribly. Now I go to a school with a very nice dining hall where it’s difficult to eat too unhealthy.

Um yeah. I don’t know where you went to high school, but I wish it was like that for me there.

I had SO much more work in high school and way less free time in class to socialize than I do in college.

Me time I agree. Meals are eh. We have a pretty good variety. (Italian, Greek, Chic-Fil-A, Einsteins, Starbucks, hotline, buffet, frozen yogurt place, deli, salad place, Asian, healthy, grill, omelet bar) And it all fits on the meal plan, so I really don’t have much to complain about with regards to that.

I never had time in high school, especially junior and senior year. I had zero social life. I actually have more opportunities to spend time with friends here. But I do sympathize with the lack of me time. It’s hard when I just want time alone, but I usually end up either standing out on my hall’s balcony (which is rarely used and has no windows to the inside), taking a walk around campus and finding an abandoned bench/tree somewhere, or spending my alone time in the hours between 11pm and 2am when my roommate’s still out.

And though it is a little frustrating that the food isn’t always predictable, and sometimes the food isn’t great all day (especially on the weekends), there’s always the grill, pizza, and salad if nothing else turns out. And we’re also able to eat at the on-campus restaurants if the dining commons don’t satisfy.

Ew, really? High school was the worst four years of my life… but I’m glad you had a better experience than I did. Hopefully if and when you live off campus, you can have more privacy and make yourself better meals. And I know my school has some pretty interesting physical education classes (ie. Racquetball, Rock climbing.) Yours might also.
