We have a three day weekend that we would like to use to get our h.s. junior up to see University of Vermont (we are near NYC). Would like to add at least one college to visit on the way up or down. Is anyone familiar with the route and the colleges along the way? We are interested in schools that are fairly similar to UVM in terms of selectivity. Also more interested in mid to larger schools than tiny LACs. Any thoughts? A SUNY perhaps? Kid doesn't care too much whether the school is in an urban, suburban, or rural setting, as long as the school itself is a decent size and has a "thriving" feel if that makes sense.

Selectivity close to UVM - SUNY NewPalz - right off of 87. More off the path is UMASS maybe see it on the way back if you come down 91. For fun (and perspective) drive through Datrmouth since you are going right by it on the way to UMASS. Next you could swing by a few Connecticut schools in that selectivity range such as UHartford, Quinnipiac, Fairfield and Sacred Heart.

Two obvious possibilities: UMass Amherst (one the way on one possible route to or from Burlington) and McGill (a couple of hours (at most) from Burlington. Also SUNY Albany and SUNY Plattsburgh. If interested in engineering, RPI.

McGill is not in the selectivity range of UVM.

not sure if they meet selectivity or size requirements but Skidmore and Vassar are both on the way
