Torn

okie dokie, well I'm in a bit of a predicament. If I don't get into Bowdoin today, I must chose between Colby and the Honors College at UVM (where I'll get slightly more money). I love both the colleges but can't chose! I wanted to post this in two neutral threads where I think people who aren't COMPLETELY concerned with the shallow "Colby's ranked higher than UVM"-ness of the Subject will respond. I'm also going to be studying one of the sciences (probably Biology or Chemistry).

Can anybody help me out please?

Thanks a ton :-D.

werd--colby is a great school, and is very highly regarded among academics and employers. UVM is also an excellent school, but does have a reputation for being a party school. Where do you plan to live once you graduate? If you want to stay in New England, then UVM will be a fine choice. If you want to move outside NE, then Colby will be an asset on your resume. In the end, you've been accepted to 2 fine schools, and I wish you the best of luck in your decision...

thank you very much! I'll take all that into consideration since I found out today that Bowdoin rejected me as well.

I would choose Colby, but that's just my personal opinion. I think that Colby can offer you more than UVM simply because it's a small school where professors are going to pay close attention to their students. I feel like you can learn more at a small school with intimate classes than a large school with huge classes.

I've been thinknig about that, but UVM offers that same intimacy in most, if not all, of the classes I'd be taking.

Thanks for the suggestion and taknig the time and effort to reply, it really is appreciated! :-)

Before you plunk down the big $$ for Colby, consider this. UVM is truly a university on the rise. The new president is really doing great things to enhance the UVM total experience. Burlington is a great small city, the kids do study(really), the HOnors program is well regarded and there is a medical school there that shares with the college. It's a tough choice but I would not dismiss it out of hand.

I'm not disregarding your statement when I ask this, I jsut am truly curious: who highly regards the Honors college and program at UVM?
thanks :-)
