I'm thinking of a college search road trip that would include:

Marquette

DePaul & Loyola

Butler (yes, it was on the list before they made the final four)

Indiana - Bloomington

Any other schools in the "neighborhood" worth a peek? Butler would probably be the smallest size D would consider, IU may be too large. Probable 28-ish ACT, 5.0+ (on a 5.0) GPA, probable business or marketing major.

If you are in Milwaukee you really should make the 80 mile drive west to Madison. Big school, but many a kid has fallen in love with the place after seeing State St. and the Student Union on Lake Mendota. Her stats are right in the ballpark.

Brrr…it’s making me cold to just think about these schools. I was raised in Illinois and don’t see how I ever walked to class in a foot of snow in 10 below zero weather…I find it hard to even tolerate Texas winters now. D thinks she wants to be up north…I certainly won’t be visiting her in the winter!

Valparaiso is a nice school right along the way between Chicago and Indianapolis that I think fits your size parameters. It’s in a much smaller community than the others so it has a different feel. Marquette, Loyola and DePaul are all in very “urban” locations in their respective cities. Think traffic, sirens, etc., although Loyola’s campus is kind of a nice enclave once you get into it. Butler is on the north side of Indianapolis in more of a residential area.

IU is very much the odd “man” out. Much bigger than the others, public, dominates its setting. But an excellent University (especially in business) and a very popular college town that a lot of kids love.

I second maxellis’ post on seeing Indiana at it’s finest/worst if you like partying. Purdue has Grand Prix and IU has Little 500. Of course, Grand Prix is better and more exciting :P
