When making college visits, does it help you in any way if you meet with an admissions officer? or will that have the same influence on your admission as if you simply go to the information sessions and take the campus tours?

An interview with an admissions officer is usually a good idea. If you are just browsing, stick with the info session and tour. If you actually have well-defined plans to apply to this school, go with the interview. Some schools outright require it, others "strongly recommend" it, which is basically the same as requiring it. Plus, it's a great way to get more personalized info that a large group info session will not give you. For example, I have no plans to major in science, so it's a waste of time for me to go to the info session and hear about summer research in physics. I would say do an interview if you want to go to the college. If you're unsure about whether or not you will apply, do a visit and info session, then do an interview at a later date if you decide that you will be applying.

meeting with one shows that you are serious

I don't think it will help you that much in admissions. But a visit + info session + campus tour really helps you get a feel for the college, which is very important.

thanks everyone for your input!
so here's the deal...I plan on visiting Harvard in June, but I don't know whether or not I should interview at that time. I mean, I won't have my app submitted by then, so they wouldn't even know I'm applying. Do you guys think I should do the interview then, or at a later date?

Yeah same for me. My GC knows the school that has been my #1 choice for the past three years or so. She said to set up an interview this spring... which kinda freaked me out.

Cause now it's spring.

So, what should we do?

@theoneo - I'm not sure if this is the wisest decision (that's why I'm asking for input on CC) but I think I'll just interview in June, since I'll be there anyway for visiting / RSI. I'm pretty sure I won't be ready by then, and I might end up looking like a complete fool, but I figure I might as well get it over with, so I don't have to make another trip to Boston.

Haha last fall my Dad was like "do you want to visit a college tomorrow?" so I was like "yeah, let's visit Yale" so the next day we drove up to Yale. We do that all the time. We did it for Georgetown, Columbia, and Cornell, too.

You are lucky living in New England, where colleges are in close proximity...and I probably will not be visiting any colleges except Oberlin, since it is quite close and one of my higher choices.
