We live in California and want to visit some MT colleges. We're thinking of starting at University of Michigan (flying into Detroit), then to Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, University of the Arts in Philly and finally to Emerson in Boston. Any trips on transportation, hotels or anything at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There are two right near UArts in Center City. The first one is the Doubletree on Locust and Broad. My parents tend to stay there because Doubletree has some discount deal worked out with UArts families, I believe.

The other is on 13th and Walnut, I believe. It's a Best Western Express. My parents have stayed here too, and it's fine. Certainly cheaper than the Doubletree, but not as nice.

As for transportation, Philly has the SEPTA program which provides great buses and subways for the entire city.

Any questions about UArts, feel free to PM or e-mail me.

rachelle0220, just a word of advice from someone who has just begun to plan similar trips: make sure to call the college/university's office to check that classes are in session, etc. so you can have your kid make the most of his or her visit by sitting in. I was surprised to learn that the last day of classes at some schools is as early as December 8!
