CollegeBoard Question of the Day

Did you guys see the Question of the Day?

**If the graph of the function f is a line with slope 2, which of the following could be the equation of f?

a. f(x) = 4x + 2
b. f(x) = 2x + 4
c. f(x) = -2x - 2
d. f(x) = x/2 + 2
e. f(x) = x/2 + 1/2
**

Of course the answer is B. They call this a "Medium" question.
Now maybe I'm crazy, but I don't think anything this easy would ever appear on a real SAT as a "Medium" question, only as an "Easy" question, if at all. Are they trying to make it seem like the test is easier than it is? Hoping we'll let our guard down?

Won't happen ;-)

I think this question might be one of the first questions you see in a math section, but it certainly isn't "medium." I mean, I'm sure quite a few middle schoolers could tell you the answer to that.

It's all a conspiracy I tell ya! crazy fist shaking

yeah, what a joke

Only reinforces my point: "The SAT Question of the Day questions seem to be much easier than the real test" - maybe not in this case but the level of difficulty is extremely skewed.

"Are they trying to make it seem like the test is easier than it is? Hoping we'll let our guard down?"

haha..you don't really believe that, do you?

i think all questions with functions or algebra2/trig are considered medium/hard..

not sure

Trig is not tested on the SAT.

For that matter, and I am digressing, do you guys honestly think Algebra II is on it too? I mean absolute value and exponents aren't really the meat of algebra II in my opinion. There aren't logarithms or anything on the SAT. Maybe I just had a more thorough Algebra I class than CB expects?

Haha. I was thinking of making a thread about this to. That question is ridiculous.

Technically, functions are a part of elementary algebra II. I think CB just said algebra II to make the UC's and all those other rebellious universities happy :P.
