Colleges don't like rec letters?

<p>I asked my guidance counsler yesterday about doing a rec letter for me and she said that she had received an email from "them" and "they" said that they really don't want any letters of rec.</p>

<p>is this true? i feel like i still want to send atleast one but not if it will make the admission officers annoyed.</p>

<p>Depends on college, many require them, but many, particularly most public universities, don’t want them and they are ignored if sent.</p>
