I want to major in business (marketing, advertising or management). My GPA is a 3.8 (UW) but my ACTs are 28. Can you guys recommend me some good match schools and safeties? Thanks!

Bentley, Babson, Bryant. (Choose Bentley =P)

Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana.

Okay, I think this is my "final" list, that will probably still change

SUNY Binghamton (Safety)
Cornell (Reach)
BC (Match/Reach)
NYU (Reach)
RPI (Safety)
Carnegie Mellon (Reach)
Villanova (Match/Reach)
Northeastern (Match)
Babson (Match)

Am I right in assuming so? Any comments are welcome!

??? Really by the limited info we were givin you can deterime that? With a 3.8 you could get into any college in the country, it everyone applying to top 30 schools has a 3.8 give or take .2 points, the real answer to your question is without any info about references or ECs no one can answer that question.

Second why is BC on that list? its a liberal arts college not a business school, and its very overrated at that(and im not a BC hater). Why is RPI on that list? Its an engineering, science, and technology school mainly. Northeastern is a saftey for your not a match, villanova is a saftey-match depending on the other parts of your app.

and stephi878, you call cornell, nyu, and carnegie mellon reaches, do you really believe that the average person at those schools has above a 3.8? of course not, so from the little info the OP gave you couldnt possibly make those assumptions.

to the op, asssuming you hav decent references and ECs you hav a good shot at all of those schools named.

Boston College has a school of management..
And RPI has Lally, which is a business department, which is more technology based though

I'm just saying with a 28 ACT because it's relatively low... I was just wondering if this as a final list was okay. I want to be realistic, but still hopefully get into a reach.

By the way, I'm not sure if you know that I was the original poster? I wasn't sure if that was made clear. Okay, cool. Thanks for your input! :)

Might want to look at Holy Cross-Top30 LAC with very strong alumni network-in the business community. HC is SAT optional and the school has tremendous school spirit.

Why are you looking at Babson and not Bentley? Unless you want to entrepreneurship, Bentley is a much better choice. The community here at Bentley is amazing and they are really really good at finding you a great job. At our career fair that just happened a couple weeks ago we had over 400 hundred companies come. I get emails everyday about opportunities for jobs and internships in every field. I think you should really consider looking into Bentley if you want to do Accounting, Finance, or any other major. And with your ACT score and your GPA you will probably get a scholarship too.

Indiana University is quite good and would be a safety for you.

Wisconsin would be a good match.

Michigan-Ann Arbor would be a reach, but worth a try.

Anybody knos anything about Clark University's management program? is it good?

What about Emory University?

USNews 2008
1 Penn
2 MIT
3 Cal
3 Umich
5 NYU
5 UNC
7 Carnegie Mellon
7 UT - Austin
9 USC
9 UVA
11 Indiana Univ - Bloomington
12 Cornell
12 Emory
12 Ohio State
12 UIUC
12 Wisconsin Madison
12 Wustl

With those USNews ratings, I feel so intimidated because I don't think I'd get into a top school with my ACT/SAT or my gpa, since it's not high because of my core classes, rather my foreign languages and electives.

I don't really like where Emory is located and I guess I will look into Bentley for you pyar!

Thanks y'all for your advice! It's really appreciated!

You will definitely get into Indiana, which is considered a top 10 undergraduate Business program.

Gtown will be a powerhouse in business soon.

I think McDonough is already a powerhouse, especially for students interested in IBanking and Management Consulting. Although the USNWR ranks Georgetown at #21, I think it should be ranked among the top 10 or top 15.

Yeah, I was really considering Georgetown, but I don't think I'd get in there. I would really like to say I could.. but that'd be pushing it. Plus, about 10 people from my school are applying there, 2 early decision, 2 early action, and they're all bunches smarter than me. I think I'm going to look into Indiana, even though it's kind of an odd state (coming from NY) to go to school, for me. You guys are so helpful! Geez

Would the banks and mc firms be flocking to Gtown if it were in Indiana all other things being equal. I think location matters more than academics sometimes.

I agree with you barrons. And actually, location really does play a huge impact on where I go. I want somewhere where I can easily go out on weekends. I'm looking for a happy balance between everything.

McDonough is ranked 11 on the BusinessWeek rankings. Check them out for another perspective: http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/undergraduate/
