Colleges for Musical Theater - PART 39 !

Ok, Musical Theater folks, here you go....our LONNNNNNNNNG running thread on this topic now has a Part 39! CARRY ON!

PS, wishing "break a leg" wishes and good luck wishes to this year's crop of Musical Theater BFA wannabes. Plus, hugs to all the parents who have supported them in this pursuit.

I posted this in the Audition Info thread, but thought Id post it here too...

For anyone who was at the Penn State audition this weekend, How'd it go? How was Sweet Charity? When are their letters supposed to come out?

Thanks CollegeMom for starting part 39.

I have personally been having some problems with my server here at home, but CC seems to be acting up at times also. Lots of times after I have visited a thread the yellow dot doesn't change color....it should do that after I have read it. ANyone else having problems?

SUE

mama02girlz,

Regarding dorm rooms/apartments....we sent in our applications & deposits to all the schools that we thought were possiblities. We didn't want to take a chance of being without a space. Good luck!

Hi Collegemom,

I was reading Part 39-- was in the midst of composing a post to it. It had a discussion of profanity. It had at least a half dozen entries-- what happened to it? Some of the people posting were mrsark and jesseinstein (not sure I have these spelled right).

Thank you,

Janice

Hi Collegemom,

I found it-- I think it was transformed into "Carnegie Mellon Acceptance Tips"-- I found it with a search. Its mrsark87 and jesseeinstein-- I got the names wrong.

Will that remain its own thread, or will it be folded into this one?

Thank you,

Janice

Thanks Janice, I finally found it thanks to your help.

Thanks for the advice, Sue. I don't know why it finally hit me, but I realized that if I waited for all this to gel, my D wouldn't have a room! I guess I'll send out a few deposits, etc. this week.

Also, CCM said we'd hear within 3 weeks. Has anyone heard that auditioned at unifieds, other than Broadway32nd who got accepted? How about for Hartt, anyone?

mama02girlz-

No problem! It's a bit overwhelming...lots of bases to cover.

SUE

soozievt--I tried emailing you, but my email is acting up--did you make your flight? I was thinking of you as we did our long drive home. We're now on the long wait. My D is still sick, so I have a feeling she isn't going to contact PSU because she doesn't have a CD to send them, and she couldn't record one with the way she is feeling. But she felt she had a good audition at CMU. So at least she felt good about that--even though the chances of getting in are slim. Good luck to all the CC kids

mama02girlz, when we were at Hartt 2/18, they told us we wouldn't hear until late March or April 1-ish. So I guess we can set aside the box of pins and needles labeled "Hartt" for a few weeks....

artsymom-
Thanks. In all the stress, I didn't remember what my D told me they said, and she couldn't remember for certain, either. Looks like March will be a long month. I'll just send out some deposits and wait. We have about 15 inches of snow in our driveway and it's snowing again, and nobody went to the mailbox today. But I did finally take down my Christmas tree today!

What discipline, mama02girlz! We probably would have strapped on snowshoes to get to that mailbox. (Where are you that you got 15 inches of snow? We're in the DC area and were supposed to get 6-10 on Monday, then it was 3-6, and we wound up with 3. Par for our wimpy course. But I grew up in Massachusetts, and I miss the real stuff.) In any case, it's probably just as well that you got around to the Christmas tree. Happy March!

mtfan,
In response to your question concerning when Penn State will send out letters..... The final audition was last weekend ( Feb. 26 ) and the faculty met immediately after to make decisions for the 2005 - 2006 class. They leave with the juniors and seniors for an extended stay in London on Monday, so I'm pretty sure those letters will go out this week. My D auditioned on the final date two years ago and she received notification about a week later. Best wishes to you!

I think that putting the deposits down if they are refundable is a great idea.
Many MTs end up in the worst/most inconvenient dorms because they have to wait to make a choice.

On the other hand, that means that they are grouped ( accidentally) with more MTs who face the same problems.

At UMich they end up in dorms on North Campus... the good news is that those dorms are located next to the school of music and away form the majority of the parties. At other schools...especially if you are going out of state the parents from in-state often know the best dorms and they reserve them early. Still other schools don't have enough dorm space..so you wait for students to change their mind about coming to that school.

It is nerve raking...but soon they'll be in college doing what they love while we miss the air of excitment...but we adjust and can reclaim our own lives (ha-ha)

A heads-up for anyone interested in following the Profanity in Theatre thread: If you're searching for it, spell the word "Theatre," unlike on the other MT threads, where it's spelled "Theater." (Of course, if you just search "MT," which would bring up both, CC gets grumpty and tells you it's too short.)

artsymom-We just keep getting a few inches each day and night on to the 6 we got on Monday, and it is piling up!!! It hasn't stopped since Sunday. Last night everyone in our area (western PA, WV, eastern Ohio) got just another few inches. We are several hundred feet above town, on a mountain, and got 5! I guess I'll venture to the mailbox today. The kids haven't had school yet this week so I'm enjoying them. D's last audition is Friday/Sat. and it's supposed to snow again on Saturday-should be fun.

Monkey, you probably don't know this but... Do you know how many people they sent acceptance offers to? or even how many people they accepted that were originaly defered?

mtfan,
At the parent meeting on Saturday they said that they were taking app. 20 -22 with the hopes of a class size 12 - 16 at PSU. Best of luck!

thanks bdwaymom. I just checked my application status online and it said That they had made a decision on my application as of 3/1 and a letter would be coming in the mail. That freaks me out so much, cause I have no idea if it could be good or bad! I'll know in a few days. Has anyone else checked their application status lately?

bdwaymom,
It was great to chat with you at the sophmore brunch on Sat. At your convenience, please e mail me as I wanted to share a few things that slipped my mind when we were together last weekend.
