Colleges for Musical Theatre-Part 38

haha so cute. Mike, you lucky bastard you, I love you too!!!

That would be the one who got in from the Jan 14th audition!!

theatermom thanks so much for that info... soooo encouraging. And Soozie, thanks so much for the brilliant words of encouragemen! Trying to breathe!! I've also heard that about 3 ppl in the freshman CCM class got in from being on hold.... so that was good news too! It's so hard to know how these things will play out. Just trying to stay sane right now really!

alex nicole - We were at Ithaca on Saturday and the man in charge said exactly that. They send out yes and no's immediately. Maybe's go in a pile* until the rest are completed. That's good, I'd think, for you! *But he didn't say that they take a lot from that pile.

mtfan,
I spoke with my daughter who is a soph MT at PSU and she said that there a few freshman in this year's class that were deferred last year and then got in, so there's definitely hope to hang your hat on! Best of luck to you.

To all auditioning: I have been reading your posts remembering all those feelings of trepidation and anxiety. As has been said many times on this borad, there is a place and a right fit for everyone. Whether it's an MT program, a BA program, an acting program or just going to college to be a "normal" person...there is a place that will work out for each of you. I agree, that only MT families know what you are going through and I feel for each and every one of you. Looking forward to seeing your final list go up in the spring...as I'm sure you are, too.

Anyone auditioning at PSU on the 26th, I will be there as a parent advocate answering questions about the program and life at PSU. Can't wait to meet you!

Michele

Mike,
Congrats to you on a spectacular accomplishment. We all know how hard it is to be admitted there, particularly this soon. You must have what it takes. Enjoy the moment. Good luck at other auditions.

Michele, I was hoping you would post because I don't have your email anymore. We are going to be at PSU on the 26th. I may contact them about seeing the show the night before. I have not solidified my plans logistically as I find I have to take one trip at a time as there is so much arranging to do. The trip to PA is involved as it involves planes and also linking the back to back auditions with PSU and CMU, nor am I coming from a big airport. The expense is really adding up. My niece is a freshman at PSU (not in theater) and we will want to see her too. I hope my D can meet your D when we are there. This is one program where she does not have any friends enrolled and it helps to talk to kids who are in the programs. She has friends at almost all the other programs whom we have connected with on visits. It is funny to meet you at the campus when all these years I go back to my home town which is adjacent to where you live and yet, I am meeting you some place else!

Lynn's statement about the communications of admissions outcomes at Ithaca are exactly what they stated this past weekend.

Soozie,
We are seeing Charity Saturday night, but call and see if tix are available for Friday night. When Casey auditioned at PSU 2 yrs ago, we did the Fri night show and then the Sat audition. It's great to be able to see the students "in action" while you're there. Casey usually is the student "registrar" on audition days, so I will tell her to be on the lookout for your D and I will be at the parent meeting, so we will finally meet up.
Tell me about the expense! All of us can relate to that one. We did do some auditions in NYC, but still had visited those schools (Syracuse, Ithaca, UM) in person the summer before. And all the while you know tuition will be starting before you know it! I know some of you have 2 that will be going to college at the same time. Yikes! Hopefully they'll all be working actors at some point and their successes will be payment enough.

I have not posted for a while, but I find I can not stop reading this thread. My D is an MT freshman at Ithaca. For those waiting for a response. I remember quite well that she audtioned in NYC on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb 2, 2004. She got her acceptance on March 1, 2005. She loves the program she said hello to some pf those audtioning last Sat., but had little time to talk as she was doing set build. Good luck to those auditioning this year.

Michele, Great, I look forward to finally meeting up and also for my D to meet yours. Yes, we would have to see the show Friday night because Sat. night we have to drive to CMU. I had in my notes about the show from your mentioning it a long time ago. This is one time we don't have to worry about missing school for travel as we are on vacation then so will arrange to get there in time. I think seeing a production at a theater program is a great thing to do but unfortunately, we have not been able to do that anywhere else. My D watched a rehearsal recently at UM because her friend that she was staying with, was in it. We are not doing unifieds. We had only seen four of my D's 8 schools prior to auditions and so in four cases, this is the chance to also visit the campus and in the other cases, we are returning. See you soon.

Hi Mike,

Don't know if you've been lurking on this thread at all before your post this morning, but you know my daughter J at UM (I think you stayed with her when you went to audition) and we met last spring in NYC when you came to the UM Senior Showcase with us. J told me of your acceptance and I just wanted to add my congratulations. I know EXACTLY how excited you are because it's where we were last year at this time. Hail to the victors valiant, yada, yada, yada. Enjoy your last two auditions, but you'd be crazy to go anywhere else. (See the title of this post.....)

And I love how you describe the UM students/program - they really ARE fierce - fiercely committed, fiercely supportive of each other and fiercely talented, GO BLUE!

Because so many of you suffered with me last year, I thought I would pass along some good news. Every year Millikin does two big shows and one big dance show. Steph didn't get a part in the big shows (as a freshman, it wasn't surprising, but still disappointing). But I got a call from her last night. She auditioned for the big dance show, even though she has yet another cold/flu. Didn't think there was any way in the world she would get a part. The maximum number of dances you can be in is five, and she was put in FOUR.

She is thrilled, and so am I.

Peg

Peggy...YAY! Things all work out and your D is a testament to that. She sounds like she is flourishing and happy where she is at and is getting to perform. She will succeed. Thanks for sharing.
Susan

Peggy,

Good things come to good people.

Oh, Peggy, that's such good news. I'm happy for you and for your D. :) I'm sending lots of good thoughts to all of you who are awaiting decisions.

On a side note, as you mentioned Susan, isn't it funny that there are three of us from the South Jersey/Phila. area on here? :)

Alwaysamom, guess what ? I did not know you were from there! I thought you lived closer to NYC. I grew up in Cherry Hill and my mother still lives there so I am there from time to time. I knew about BroadwayMom and which town she lives in. But not you! My brother lives in Medford.
Susan

Oh, Susan, that's funny! I thought you knew! :) Silly me. Anyway, I don't live there now but I grew up in Medford many moons ago!

Peggy - Congratulations to your daughter. I'm so happy for her! (Forget your 3 good things and a bad ~ this week you have four good!) Great to hear that good things happen to those who persevere.

Congrats to all who got in and are still in the running for a spot. It is tough, I know, but it really is the fairest way to go as there are so many auditions yet to go. For those deferred, at this point, though, at least there are not as many as for those who deferred right at the beginning. We did not get a letter for more than a month after the audition at UMich, but it may have been because Christmas break was here as well. You may get a decision within 2 weeks after each audition from what I understand, or you may be kept right to the very end. I talked to a young man in the program there who was deferred and then waitlisted, and then accepted well after the April date. The great news is that you are still under active consideration. I don't know what is better, holding the news to the very end or doing it this way, as I do believe that all of the schools do the same thing but just do not notify the definitely accepted and denied applicants. I know for my S it was rough, because he hates not knowing things. He can just drop it and go on if it is no longer a consideration, or take it and run if it is, but the gray zone is difficult for him, especially when he knows other kids have already gotten a decision. Good luck to all of you.

Chrism, I used to go right by Roosevelt U many years ago when we lived in Chicago. I had thought about taking some actuarial courses there, as they do offer them. Do not know much about their other offerings. But the whole area near the theatre was very artsy. Lots of performing arts types mulling around, and the offerings were well attended by Chicagoans. I know I went to a few of their things, and I don't even remember if they were done by the students or by a professional troupe, as the theatre gets heavy use. When we visited Emerson, I saw a striking similarity to Roosevelt. The location in heart of downtown Chicago is ideal, I can tell you. You can walk anywhere from there, as I often went by the school on the way to work and other destinations.

I did not look at the course offerings, faculties, etc. They do offer the BFA in both music and theatre, and there is a true MT program. You do not have to cobble anything together yourself. And with the strong music dept, I would assume that the instruction quality of voice would be high there. I don't know what the selectivity of the MT program is either.

Ericsmom, the acting audition for Juilliard is a long day that has to be scheduled just in case of call backs. Out of nearly 300 kids at one session, 4 were called back. I guess if you are called back, you have an excellent shot of getting in. There are no quotas on call backs, they say. But if you are called back, you are stuck till 10PM. S was there until after 6PM before the list came out, and they were running late from the morning session as well, so you would have to schedule accordingly.

Peggy,

So good to see you posting again!! Glad your D is lovin' it at Millikin...BTW Millikin is the same conference as Webster (a hop skip and a jump from Webster). If your D ever decides to audition for MidWest Theatre please feel free to email me....auditions are on Webster's campus and she can look the guys up. Also, Peggy, ask your D if she knows a lighting techie who also takes dance classes by the name of Dawn K.(I believe Dawn is a Junior or Senior now at Millikin)....she taught my guys tap for two of their 4 years. She is a real dyno!!

Everyones' posts at this time are mighty reminiscent of our household a year ago. Hang in there everyone! We are all pulling for you!! Another year from now you will be advising the new ones!!

Best to all,

SUE B

How many posts must I make in order to advance to the next status? For some reason it really bugs me that I am still considered a "new member". Jeesh- I have been following this thread from almost conception...deep sigh May all my problems be so small. LOL :)

SUE B

soozievt and alwaysamom,
Add another Philadelphia gal to the list; I grew up there but raised my family in Central Pa.
