Colleges for the Jewish "B" student (Part 1)

Thanks, just ordered a copy.

Boysx3 lunch report (apologies in advance for cross-posting): Boysx3 and I spent three hours together this afternoon. She is doing very well and it was a joy to spend time with her. Her doctors are beyond pleased with her recovery. Her home aide is delightful and caring, and her family have surrounded her with love and support that would make you cry. She said she intends to post on CC soon.

Fabulous news! I am so glad you have been able to see her and that she is progressing so well.

Please give boysx3 best wishes for a continuing recovery from me. She was helpful when we were trying to decide between UMD and Miami Ohio for my son.

Thanks for the update on Boysx3. I am very happy to hear about her recovery and wonderful family support. Best wishes to her for continued recovery.

Wow, great news, CD. Glad to hear it! Thanks for the update. Hope she continues to improve each day.

Congratulations Elon!

Anyone know how their numbers are derived?

I see, they are guesses. That is not information that is generally collected by all schools since Judaism is considered a religion and not a race. From the disclosures: "Individual College Guide record information is self-reported by the local Hillel professionals who serve that college or university. All statistics are estimates. "

Yes - no way to have a definitive count since religion is not a required field on a college application. It’s meant as a general indication of Jewish population on that campus - not an absolute.

It’s a starting point for a family composing a list of potential schools, that’s all.

Thanks for the updated list, RVM. I just glanced at it quickly but was surprised to see Georgetown listed. :-?
I really didn’t think they had a Jewish population worthy of making a list! As far as Elon goes, wonder how much is attributable to this thread that you started!
CD: Again, thanks for the update on boysx3. After seeing my own mother have a massive stroke 5 years ago, it’s amazing how much love and attention can bring someone back from the brink. Even though she will never talk or walk again (now age 82), she has come a long way in her mind and her brain synapses have been working hard! Good thing she has such good facial expressions, we know exactly what she’s thinking!

I believe the PSAT does ask about religion which is then fed to schools for marketing purposes. I remember that one Southern California evangelical Christian college sent me quite a bit of mail which was a surprise to me since I marked Jewish on that form.

Glad to hear about Boysx3 feeling better!

How is UMD not even on this list

@aik257 - I think UMD is highly on people’s lists for Jewish community, but it’s not always possible for “B” students from out of state…

Average SAT for UMD is a little over 2000 and GPA 4.03 W. We know lots of Jewish B students who have been happy at Towson.

So many from our hs apply to Maryland - it can be out of reach for a “B” student in our area. We have definitely seen students with a mix of A’s and B’s and around a 29 ACT be waitlsted for fall and admitted for the spring. I think it is a tough admit below a 29 ACT.
