Colleges in New York

Hi!
I’ve been looking at so many colleges all around the US, but I can’t seem to find many of interest in New York (that I could also afford/have a chance at being admitted into). However, New York has been my dream location for a very long time! I’m not sure if this is how it works, but I was thinking of posting some things that I am looking for and seeing if anyone has any suggestions!

(I’m a Sophomore in high school btw)
GPA (W): 3.58

GPA (UW): 2.58

PSAT: 1180

SAT/ACT: N/A

Majors: Performing Arts (Acting; I know that you have to audition!) / Unknown (I would really like to major in something else as well!)

Minors: Business/Languages (My preferred languages are Spanish, Romanian, and Korean)

Income: A little more than $70,000/year. I try not to set my heart on colleges that are more than $25,000/year, but I definitely prefer less than $23,000/year, because I am definitely looking to avoid any major debt (Unrealistic, I know. Especially at a college in NY).

I think that’s about everything. Thank you to whoever actually responds!!

Just to be sure, are you looking for colleges in New York State or New York City (the 5 boroughs) - assuming you mean NYC?

While NYC is preferable, New York State would be great, too!

It sounds as if you’re i the early stages of your search. I would check out the SUNY and CUNY schools throughout the state for those with better performing arts and business departments

LACs (just a few of many to consider):

Alfred
Hobart William Smith
Syracuse

Good luck with your search.

What state are you from? NYS publics are $30k for OOS students. Private colleges that offer great aid require high stats.

You can only borrow $5500/year. If your parents’ total income is $70k you might get a federal Pell Grant of a few hundred dollars, but I wouldn’t count on much. That gives you a budget of maybe $6k/year.

Can your parents pay anything?

SUNY Fredonia and SUNY Purchase are both excellent for acting. So is CUNY Brooklyn. If you are a NYS resident, those might be your best choices, financially, unless you can chase merit. I don’t know that your scores and GPA will permit that, but you can look at some schools that are good for acting, but not necessarily highly ranked academically, like LIU Post or Molloy/CAP 21.
