Colleges in San Francisco

I am from the midwest and don't know much of the west coast. However, I'm very interested in any colleges in or around San Francisco, if anyone would like to lend me a hand.

Sadly, San Francisco doesn't have much - UCSF is mainly a graduate medical school, I think. Stanford and Berkeley are in the area, and isn't College of the Pacific as well?

I live in San Francisco, and I can tell you that there are not that many great colleges around here. There is UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz(two hours drive) USF, SUSF(state) Stanford, Santa Clara, and a bunch of smaller ones. I havent even heard of most of the schools on that list. But many are community colleges, even some of the ones that dont have community college in their names.

Stanford and Berkeley tend to overshadow the smaller bay area colleges like USF, St. Mary's, Mills, Dominican, etc.

I thought about editing out the community colleges on that list, but didn't feel like taking the time.

One does not have to go to school in S.F. in order to enjoy the bay area, but be forewarned that many bay area colleges are more commuter schools than residential, and weekends may get a bit lonely on campus!

Wow, I am extremely grateful for all of the responses!! Thank you all so much for taking the time to help me.

The Bay area and San Francisco are two different things. I.e. Oakland, Berkeley, Marin County etc are different culturally from San Francisco proper. Just like Manhattan has little in common with its immediate suburbs (or even the rest of NYC).

The point is, the only [undergraduate] college of note in San Francisco proper is USF.
