I am currently a sophomore at Olivet Nazarene University. I am thinking about transferring because I don't feel challenged here. I have a double major in general music (flute) and art with a concentration in graphic design. The most important thing is that the school would be in the Midwest and that I would be able to study both music and graphic design.

Here's what else I'm looking for in a school. It doesn't necessarily have to fit ALL these criteria, but just to give a general idea:
Private school
Less than 10,000 students (high student/faculty ratio)
Guaranteed housing
Nice campus
Not a "party school" (Don't care if there's some drinking, but I want to be able to easily stay away from it)
Good academics (I got a 34 ACT and 4.6 GPA, so that is a strong point for me being accepted to a school)

Thank you!

Oberlin, Lawrence, Knox

Second Knox, Lawrence and Oberlin.

Add Luther and St. Olaf (fantastic academics + fantastic conservatory-like music program).

Northwestern University, Oberlin College

Second St. Olaf (good choice for a music major, although graphic design courses may need to be taken elsewhere). Northwestern is too big to meet the criteria of the OP.

Thanks for the suggestions.

In reading more of this forum, I am thinking I want more of a liberal arts college rather than a conservatory. Since I know graphic design is a more practical degree than music, what I am hoping to do after college is be a graphic designer and then do some freelance performance jobs or private teach on the side. Or possibly find some job which combines the two areas.

Which of these schools, if any, are liberal arts colleges? I know Oberlin is a great music school, but would I be able to study graphic design there too?

Sorry for all the questions. Just want to get as much information as I can.

northwestern and school of the art institute of chicago

Most of the schools listed on this thread are liberal arts colleges, except for Northwestern. St. Olaf is a great recommendation, it meets most of your needs. It has 3,000 students, a beautiful campus, campus housing is required so it is plentiful and since it is a dry campus with no Greek scene, it is not a party school. The music program is terrific. I know St. Olaf offers a BFA in Art but I am not sure about graphic design.

Lawrence and Oberlin are also great choices but I am not as familiar with them.

Nothing to add schoolwise-just adding that my inlaws live outside of St. Ann and enjoy attending all the Olivet choir perofrmances.
