I'm going to be auditioning for a music major- piano performance. How much emphasis do these schools put on the audition compared to your grades, test scores, rank, gpa, etc.?

(My parents are only allowing me to go somewhere in the midwest...incase you're curious why my list doesn't include certain schools in other areas.)

Northwestern University
Lawrence University
Oberlin College
Saint Olaf College
University of Saint Thomas
Concordia College at Moorhead
Illinois Wesleyan University
Butler University
DePauw University
Baldwin-Wallace College

sorry i don’t think i can be a lot help since these schools look really unfamiliar to me except for northwestern, which i know is sort of competitive and selective, might be difficult to get in.
why don’t you check up usnews? i know there are some kind of rankings about art schools and admission rate or something like that.

Based on what I think I know about Lawrence, and what I take to be its ranking in relation to Northwestern and Oberlin, I’d say that auditions for those three are VERY important–if you want to be in their music programs.

Probably would be better to ask this in the Music Major Forum. From what I gather, Conservatories only care about the audition but colleges and universities do consider your academic profile.

Recently on the Music Major forum there was a person who “passed” the music school audition but was rejected by Northwestern Admissions.
