I’m a high school senior and I’m in love with NYU, however the high cost means it might not be a realistic option for me. Are there any similar schools with cheaper tuition/more generous financial aid that I could consider?
When I mean similar I mean an urban campus, good reputation, little to no Greek scene, preferably with good international relations or journalism program. Also something that I could get into with a 29 (30 superscored) ACT and a mix of As and Bs (with 2 Cs) throughout my transcript.
The public universities in your state will be the most affordable typically. Which state are you located in? Look up colleges and universities located in the downtown areas of cities in your state for the best options.
I’ve already applied and been accepted to DePaul and Loyola Chicago. I looked at Drexel and Temple as well. I’ve looked at Fordham a little but I don’t know much about it. Thanks for the suggestions!
I’m from Illinois. University of Illinois in Chicago doesn’t have my major, and the larger one in Urbana-Champaign doesn’t appeal to me (not in a large city, big Greek/party school). Outside of those options, the state schools here aren’t really known for their quality.
Yes it is!! Emerson is a great school for lots of things! Check it out. I wish my D would apply there. She wants a more traditional campus, so it’s not an option at this point. But, it was highly recommended by her college counselor.
Emerson has been a leader in journalism, broadcast journalism and media in general for a long time. Very hands on. I used to work in that field in Boston (back in the 80s) and they were very present, meaning their students and grads were quite involved in internships and jobs at many outlets while cable TV was exploding on the scene. Really big in film as well.
I have a sibling who went to Emerson and it’s not what it’s cracked up to be. It’s not a very selective school so the students who go there are generally unmotivated and unprepared. There’s not a big social scene too. Great professors and programs, but the student body really bring it down. Nowhere near as good as NYU
