So I don't understand why I don't hear a lot of people taking the ACT. It seems easier because I took a practice test and I like it a lot more than the SAT. Do people choose the SAT because colleges like the SAT better?
Which would look better: getting a perfect score on the SAT or a perfect score on the ACT?</p>

<p>We could get bogged down in a discussion of which is more prestigious, a 36 or 2400, (statistically the percentage of people getting 2400s is lower) but really they’re essentially the same. </p>

<p>I advise you to take both and then retake (if necessary) which ever is your stronger. I took both and performed much better on the ACT, but it varies by person.</p>

<p>Don’t just take one or another because getting a perfect score in it is more prestigious… Frankly, that’s ridiculous.</p>

<p>Colleges look at the SAT and ACT equally. More people take the ACT than the SAT so your source of information is wrong. Also, many top colleges will take a SAT I and two subject tests or only an ACT. One test versus taking three, so the ACT does get benefits.</p>

<p>And if that is true then how come not a lot of people take it at my school? mostly everyone takes the sat and a handful of them get accepted to ivy leagues with their high sat scores. they would probably get a high score on the act, but they chose the sat instead. is it more prestigious to get a high sat score than a high act score?</p>

<p>according to the act website, the ACT is the only college test accepted by ALL AMerican colleges.</p>

<p>It depends where you live. In our state, only smart people take the SAT. Probably only 20 out of 700 students take the SAT each year at our school. And guess what the average SAT is at our school? (2000 haha)</p>

<p>1.57 million people took the ACT last year. 1.54 million took the SAT.</p>

<p>They chose the SAT because the state you live in is a SAT state. There are other states that very small percentages of the population take the SAT.</p>

<p>If you consider memorizing a lot of vocabulary and grammar rules a type of prestige, yes the SAT is more prestigious.</p>
