Hello ~

I wanted to ask whether anyone knows of a university that offers a good Japanese program in New York City or within, at the most, one hour of NYC? Other than Columbia, I mean.

Also, in that vein, I was wondering quite a few things in regards to language programs. So, first of all, let's say I'm only interested in the language of a certain country and I don't want to take cultural or philosophical classes. Then I wouldn't major in it, correct? What I'm basically trying to say is, the LANGUAGE classes you would take (Beginner/Basic, Intermediate, Advanced) if you major in a language are the same classes you'd take if you just take the language as a second language/elective, right?

Also, let's say I do that, take the language as an elective. Would I be able to study abroad for a year/semester or would I have to be majoring in the language to do that? Could I request to study abroad?
