Colleges' Take On Independent Study

In my school, there is only a certain number of students that can take a class. I was not offered a class not due to my grades (i have far above the requirements) but due to schedule conflicts and class availability.

I am willing to sit in the class and learn from the teacher, but I won't get a grade or class credit for being in the class because I will not be registered. But I will self-study and take the AP exam in May and hopefully score high enough to receive credit for the exam.

Would a college see this as a positive or negative thing?

i am doing the same thing that you are doing! b/c my school does not offer it..i am doing it for ap computer science..i am thinking that colleges will see it as you having initiative

Making the most of the opportunities you have is always a positive thing. If the opportunity you have is to sit in on class and self-study for the AP test, I’d say it would have to be a positive.
