<p>I'm deciding on taking independent study AP's, because my school only offers like 5. But would colleges even consider it? or no? </p>
<p>like where on the application would you even put you did independent study, or what? if u did it online, would u mention the place u took the AP from..liek for instance apex, or aventa..they offer online APs...</p>

<p>What do you mean by “independent study”? Would this be a period during the school day during which you study it by yourself, or you taking it the exam without any type of official course?
If it is the latter, colleges would likely notice your initiative to take the exams despite your school’s lack of offering the courses. If this is the case (or even if it the former) I don’t know why would state that it is independent study, but you could do so in the additional information section.</p>

<p>I self studied AP Physics C E+M and pulled off a 5 and colleges didn’t care too much about it.</p>

<p>Wait, so you do have the classes but you’re choosing not to take them and self-study instead? Not a good idea, I would say. No matter how much your classes “suck”, at least they will provide you with a set period of time to focus on the AP material + assignments to work with. And I’m assuming if you would get a C in the class, it’s because your classes are harder than the usual, not easier. Then TAKE THEM. You’ll be better prepared to get that 5 on the exam. Don’t be afraid of hard classes.</p>
<p>And yes, if you “wantyale”, then you should definitely take APs.</p>
<p>You should do it. I’m self studying for 2, maybe 3, I haven’t really decided yet. It’s a time commitment and since you’re studying by yourself, you have to have motivation. I got the practice books from the Princeton Review, and I did the first 50 pages of each. And now I’m “taking a break” which basically means a “4 month hiatus until the night before when I start freaking out.” So you should make sure you’re motivated enough to do this. Because if you self-study and get a 1 or 2, colleges won’t care. It might actually reflect badly on you.</p>
<p>Also, I got rejected from Stanford, so maybe it doesn’t even matter. I’ve gotten 5s on 5 APs, also.</p>
<p>lyc0r1s…so ur saying if an AP class affects your gpa but you end up getting a 5…that would be evened out? i really dont want to affect my gpa in any way…which a bad gpa wont get into yale…</p>
<p>I would self study APs that are not offered by your school, iwantyale. For the ones that ARE offered at your school… I mean, if you don’t take the AP courses, what are you going to take instead? You’ll risk being totally bored in a slower class (and trust me, at my school at least, most of the regular classes suck because the teachers never even teach:( You end up not learning anything.). And it’s actually considered better to have a lower GPA in a more rigorous course than a high GPA in an easy course.</p>

<p>well we have block scheduling which makes it really tough. you can’t schedule more than 2 APs per year in my school. 3 APs if you are EXTREMELY lucky. So even if my school does offer it, it doesnt mean i can take it easily. Because scheduling is the toughest in my school. A lot of kids don’t get many APs in at all. 1 or 2 per year is most common. Also you arent allowed to take APs till junior year. a lot of this is affecting me greatly, and i dont know what to do about it.</p>
<p>i dont think i can take them on CTY- because i did not take SATs yet (im a junior planning on taking them in march) …and dont u have to be in that gifted SAT range to take them…helppp on what to do…and i mean if i do independent study, where on the application do i state it? and how greatly would it help me</p>
<p>^I’m not baiting I’m just curious: wouldn’t block sheduling make it easier to schedule more APs? You have the same number of classes a year, just split by semester. This means you can take more APs since they don’t overlap, right? Am I missing something?</p>
<p>Independent study is something you can do completely on your own, particularly if it’s something that interests you already. I just reported the score on my apps, my school puts scores on my transcript so I didn’t feel the need to explain. I don’t think it helps too much, it’s just doing well on a test. The reason I did it is for possible course exemption in an area I would love to study at a high level in college but don’t want to major in–I don’t want to waste time in an intro course where I will learn nothing.</p>
<p>4 credits per semester…2 semesters…1.5 credit is AP class…so every day for first semester, and every other day for 2nd semester</p>
<p>and there are required courses yearly for my school…so u need a half credit course to go along with every AP course…so if i take stats AP…i need to take a half credit course which are basically all electives…and everyone schedules APs…so if i take 2 APs i might miss out on math this year…then ill be behind in math…its confusing but my school sucks that way…i hate it.i go to a really low standard public</p>
