I must confess, I do not think all of the information in the 12/15/2008 post from Freezo 1994 is accurate. Sorry.

i wish more schools would not count 9th grade grades. my first semester freshman year sucked, going from middle school to high school was just tough, getting real work and real teachers for the first time. i got Bs in all my honors classes, which still hurts my gpa today. it took me a while to figure out how to get As. so, thank you to schools who dont count freshman grades.

Yale: confirmed, they use all four years for the admission process :(

buzzardsbay,

yes, i belive it is only from grades 10-11 for the eligibility (you can go on the UC admissions page for the eligibility info)

from an UC admissions person:

-"UCs do not consider class ranking."
-"The 8-semester cap is for calculating eligibility only. For application evaluation, most UCs use fully weighted and unweighted GPA."

(just because you are eligible doesn't mean you will get in since most of the applicants UC GPA hovers around 4.2-4.3 uw)

and oh yea, this is an email from JHU admissions office

ME:"during the application process, do the university consider High-school Gpa from years or only 10-11?"
THEM:"We look at 10-12 but 11 thru 12th is the most important"

HiPeople,

i belive the UC's and Princeton scratch off the +,-'s

jax90291,

same here, my gpa if you consider 9-12 is 3.4, but if you scratch off 9th grade its 3.98!, but the main reason the colleges dont consider 9th grade gpa is because there are many school in which 9th grade is "Junior High" which brings up confusion in the addmision process.

oceanview,

the universities i have posted, ive gotten emails from them and they are confirmed. but the "UC Myth" part was taken from info i have gotten from an Ex-Admission person at UCLA who just left the job last summer...
