<p>USC is rec-optional. If you’re aiming for the merit scholarships though, recs are absolutely helpful.</p>
<p>Most colleges don’t require LORs. The more selective the college, the greater the likelihood of requiring LORs.</p>
<p>Very curious to ask however: why is a LOR requirement a filter for you to choose where you will spend four years of college? Most people look at something like “cost” or “size” or “prestige”. You mean you’ll rule out entire swaths of colleges just b/c they need an LOR? Really?</p>
<p>None of the publics in Washington do, with the exceptions of specific programs within UW Bothell and UW Tacoma.</p>
<p>Large majority of public universities in the US do not require rec letters. In Illinois, none of the publics do including UIUC.</p>
