Colleges that superscore - retakes without writing?

My son took the ACT earlier this month and was very happy with his scores, particularly his writing. The colleges he's looking at all say they "superscore" or take the best score from each section on any test. He'd like to try to raise his math score and take the test one more time in April. Will colleges be willing to add in that score if he doesn't take the writing portion again? The colleges list "ACT with writing" required, but as long as he has one writing score is that good enough or will the entire ACT not count if he doesn't take that part?

Thanks for any input! My husband is going to call his first choice school today to at least see what they tell him.

I don't think that is possible, but you should ask the college directly

check with your particular school to be sure.

I'm a little bit concerned that even if we call the college directly, a random person will tell us it's fine and then later the scores won't be taken. I'm thinking we should just suck up the extra $15 or so (and he'll just have to spend those extra 30 minutes) and take it just in case. He's just insisting he doesn't want to take the writing part again and that he won't do as well this time.
