Am looking for suggestions for colleges w/ nursing programs. My friend's daughter is not interested in Ivy or very competitve colleges. She does want to get a four year degree in nursing.

She's a rising senior and likes Grove City and Covenant but I don't think they have nursing programs. Please post if you have helpful or relevant ideas.

Many colleges offer nursing programs...several SUNY"s, Villanova and Boston College off the top of my head....They are very competitive to enter the actual nursing program...some work that you do your liberal arts/sciences the first 2 years and your last 2 years are more focused on clinical ( actual bedside nursing, etc) and nursing classes. Some colleges you aren't guaranteed admission into the actual nursing program, and must gain admittance after your first 2 years of sciences/liberal arts from a large applicant pool based on GPA's..Best to check with each college

Check out the Natiional League for Nursing website which has a link to schools of nursing. Many schools are beginning to offer BSN/MSN programs which are great, since professional nursing practice at many levels requires a graduate degree ( faculty, research, some administrative positions). Case has an excellent program- well thought of nationally. Any of the state universities that have established health science programs usually have excellent nursing schools- you want to make sure that the clinical portion of the curriculum provides at least fifty percent of the course work involved in clinical practice. Sometimes, at the more elitist schools of nursing, theory is emphasized over practice. For graduate school, Columbia, Duke, Yale- all the usual suspects have excellent programs.

The University of Portland in Oregon has a very good nursing program. It's a lovely Catholic school in a suburban area of Portland along the river.
