I tried to find lists of colleges with the friendliest students, and most have a religious affiliation and/or are not in the northeast. Just my luck, because I want to go to a school in the northeast with no religious affiliation. Does anyone know of any places?
You will find friendly people everywhere, along with unfriendly people. However, I’ve been all over the country, and in my experience I have found those from Kentucky to be the absolute friendliest for some reason. After that I would say midwesterners and Californians. Everyone probablly can give you different opinions though.
As far as friendly students in the northeast, I’d put Bates and Haverford on the list.
I have found the students and faculty at St. Olaf College to be very nice, in a way that has gone above and beyond expectations. Just a nice group of people all around.
A list of colleges with the friendliest students is on par with the lists of colleges with the sexiest men/women.
Though not a statement with respect to a school itself, Hamilton NY, the home of Colgate University, appears to be the only college town listed in a Forbes article, “America’s 15 Friendliest Towns.”
My D1 found Dickinson students to be really friendly. When she sat in on a class when visiting, students struck up a conversation and stayed to chat with her after. She sat in at classes at over a dozen schools, and that is the only place that ever happened.
IMO it is a matter of finding the group of schools that are good social fits for you.
