Can anyone advise on good merit aid for transfer students ? (OOS)
Asking for my wife, she has an AS and is looking for a 4 year school to finish her education.
Stats are as follows,
AS degree in computer science from a CC in CA - GPA 3.85/4.0 (Finished 2 years ago)
Slightly over 2 years of community work with Salvation Army (400 hours)
ACT score - 33 (Taken 4 years ago)
No ECA or activities in school (We have 2 kids to look after, no time for that)
Has no LoRs - She might be able to get 1 or 2 if her lecturer remembers her.
We don’t qualify for in state tuition for anywhere because my wife and I have been overseas the last 2 years. So once we return to the US, we’ll still be ‘out of state’ for tuition purposes. Looking for a decent Uni that can offer merit aid for transfer students to make the cost cheaper. Looking to major in Computer Science/Engineering or Applied Math.
Not that many universities offer merit aid for transfer students.
GWU has some good merit aid for transfers going into the School of Engineering and Applied sciences, but then again the COA of GWU is over 60k.
$16k scholarships for 3.2, 30+ units
$20k scholarships for 3.7, 60+ units
For other universities the only merit aid they USUALLY give out is for the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. I say usually because there are universities that offer other merit aid, but very many. There’s not really any full rides or full tuition or anything like that.
I think that what @popitx says is typical of some private universities like my university, Illinois Tech. Our transfer merit aid starts at $10,000 ($15,000 for Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society).
