Hi. Well I didn't get into Kelly LLC but got into Collins instead. I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight about this dorm? I have searched on this forum and come to a conclusion that this place while is nice in atmosphere, has a common interest that I do not share with. However I am still willing to give it a shot, but still need more information to decide if I really want to stay. I mean if I decided not to attend Collins but somewhere else, will I be placed again under the circumstance of my preference or on availability of other dorms? Thank you. And sorry for any typos and such, I typed this on my phone.

Many business majors live in Collins. Follow the link below to see the distribution of various majors.

I am curious as to what the common interest is that you do not share with other Collins residents. Knowing that would help others give you more insight as to whether Collins is a good place for you or not.

Uhm. I have researched on this forum that Collins is known for having many people with alternative living styles (if you get what I mean, I don’t want to be too blunt). Maybe I am just having some prejudices based on what I heard about the LLC. However, I have decided to stay and give it a shot because I realise I should give it a try before coming to any conclusion. The only concern I have for the dorm is not have air conditioning. I get rashes easily in the summer (from where I am, it is extremely hot in the summer) and I have allergies. I know you have to have a doctor’s note about getting air condition installed. But since I live in an another country, I am not sure if they will accept notes from a foreign doctor. Plus there will be additional cost right?

I would assume that they will accept a note from a foreign doctor. I don’t know why they wouldn’t.

I think it would make sense for you to email RPS and ask about air conditioning and what you need to do to either have one installed in your bedroom or be transferred to another dorm.

You will find that Bloomington is very accepting of alternative lifestyles. If that makes you uncomfortable, you’ll probably be uncomfortable a lot of the time. I bet that some of those ‘alternatives’ live in Kelly LLC also! That said, you will find people that you’ll be comfortable with and you may find that those with alternative lifestyles aren’t as uncomfortable to be around as you suspect.

Haha don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against them. Just feel a little nervous about not able to fit in. Either way I have decided to give it a shot. If I really can’t fit in or feel comfortable living there, I will try to change rooms after the first semester. As for the air conditioning advice, thank you very much. I will see what happens. Btw is Bloomington very hot in the summer? I mean I have lived near the equator for half of my life. Can’t imagine it can get any harsher than that.

It can be broiling in Bloomington in August–90s and very, very humid. So if you’re used to an arid climate, the humidity might be a big shock to you. If you’re from Brazil…well probably not so much
