I was doing my housing application for IU and I was trying to decide between Collins and Central. As of now, Collins is my top choice because it doesn't seem like there are a lot of parties and I heard they have stuff like Harry Potter week and all. I looked online but no one really gave a thorough detail of Collins so I was wondering if anyone here could? Oh, and does anyone how far it is from the College of Arts and Sciences? Thanks!

Did you check out WeAreIU.com? If not, go to that site and search on “Collins”. You will find several reviews from students who live(d) in Collins.

This page will tell you the walking distances from Collins to various locations on campus:

I don’t know which buildings commonly have COAS classes, maybe Ballantine and Swain? You can compare those walking distances from Collins to those of the dorms in the Central neighborhood.

I did check out the reviews and they all seemed great but I was wondering if there was anything additional anyone else had. I heard Collins has a lot of drug use which idk if it’s true or not.

My daughter is a current senior. She says Collins’ reputation is that is where the druggies live. She didn’t live there, so she is basing her comment on what she has heard.

Collins is definitely where the more hipster and hippie/alternative type of students live, but its proximity to campus and food court are the big advantages.

Yea I keep on hearing those things but I never really got the pros and cons of Collins because it’s not as talked about as Central or Northwest dorms like McNutt and Briscoe. I’m debating between that and Central, because I heard Collins has less parties but friendly people.

Great food, friendly, accepting students. DS lived there three years and didn’t complain about noise, drugs, intolerance. Daughter at McNutt having an awful experience with rude, destructive people…
